ZHdK – Zürcher Hochschule der Künste

ZHdK – Zürcher Hochschule der Künste

PSI Audio was chosen after thorough objective and subjective listening!

Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) is a vibrant center for teaching, research, and production excellence in all artistic disciplines including music, film, art & media, dance, theatre, etc.

ZHdK has already trained 15 Tonmeisters and numerous world-class sound engineers.

As a high level training institute, ZHdK is committed to providing students with the best possible tools including, of course, audio monitors. When integrating new buildings and in need of new monitors, ZHdK seized the opportunity to thoroughly test the best monitors in the world and evaluate them in terms of response precision, homogeneity, dynamics, balance, stereo image. Choosing monitors has an impact over several decades and therefore needs to be done with due diligence.

Therefore, ZHdK mandated an independent company to establish the test protocol and perform the evaluations:  Applied Acoustics GmbH.

Applied Acoustics shortlisted 5 monitors among the best in the world in each category. The “large” monitor category included the A25-M and the “medium” included the A17-M.

Totally blind listening sessions were then conducted by about 20 people including Tonmeisters, sound engineers and musicians. Each person filled in a subjective evaluation scorecard following a precise protocol. The result was clear: PSI Audio won.

In final, 3 surround studios are now equipped with A25-M + SUB A225-M in front and A17-M as rear, 1 studio is equipped with a pair of A25-M and 2 others with A17-M.

”PSI Audio monitors work perfectly for every kind of content, they are always a reliable tool whatever is being produced. This is particularly important as every day we have something completely different going on in our training studios” says Simon Könz, Tonemeister at ZHdK.
